Medical Coordination of Workers' Compensation Claims (CA 12)
This course concentrates on medical management of the claim and medical control. Medical-legal reports, bills and liens are discussed together with current trends in medical rehabilitation. The various medical specialties will be identified with emphasis on how they might relate to a workers' compensation case. As part of this course, there are five sections in medical terminology.
With the change in the PD rating system (post 2004) and use of the AMA Guide, 5th Edition, medical terminology is even more important as the workers' compensation claims examiner must be able to understand the medical report issues in order to convert the injury into a permanent disability rating value.
With the inclusion of the AMA Guide in the permanent disability rating system, medical terminology is an even more important educational goal for IEA's workers' compensation curriculum.
Although the AMA Guide is a critical part of medical management in the California workers' comp system, the material in that guide is copyrighted and permission to excerpt it is difficult to obtain. In some Modules of this course it is very desirable to have a copy of the Guide at hand in order to follow examples created by the author.
