Personal Automobile
The Personal Auto Policy (PAP) is often the first insurance policy a consumer buys and the first insurance product an agent sells. It's important for both the consumer and the insurance professional to understand the policy. This course is written from the perspective of the insurance producer or underwriter who needs a detailed understanding of the personal auto policy. In this course you will review key definitions and concepts such as who is an insured and when non-owned autos can be covered by your auto policy. The course reviews important liability coverage and exclusions, physical damage coverages, important endorsements, rental car coverage, automatic coverage extensions, and other important changes.
You will be able to achieve the following after completing the course:
- List and explain eligibility rules, key policy definitions, concepts and coverage implications to "You", BI and PD, "Family Member", "Covered Auto", "Owned" vs. "Covered Autos", "non-owned autos", and "Newly Acquired" and "Temporary Substitute Autos".
- Describe the elements of negligence, how defense coverage is provided, the different categories of insureds, and what situations PAP liability coverages are triggered.
- List and explain key liability, medical payments, uninsured and underinsured motorist, coverage, no-fault plans, and physical damage exclusions and policy limitations.
- Explain how PAP endorsements can expand coverage for excluded risks or coverage limitations related to auto liability, physical damage, and ineligible vehicles.
- Discuss coverages provided by a PAP regarding rental cars when rented as a temporary substitute vehicle, as a permissive user, or during vacation with regard to "You", a "Family Member", or as a PAP "Insured".
